Metal Night

King, Dohm, Irreality, Insurrect

4 bands on the bill! Didn't think it could be done, but it went off without a hitch. First up was King. They were a mix of old & new. They interjected some of the screamy stuff, but the singer could sing, and there was even some harmonies which was refreshing. Next up was Dohm. Dohm is more on the progressive side. With tight tasty changes, they are a band to watch. As is Irreality who were also on the bill. Another awesome local band. A truly original sound. Their singer was a cross between Kurt Cobain and Rasputin. He held the crowd captive crawling on the poles & tables. Insurrect finished off the night with their hardcore blend of speed metal. Overall an awesome night. All of the bands were tight and sounded good. THey kept the volume to a civil level, and you could hear what they were playing, instead of hiding behind a wall of noise. Last night was a glimmer of my dreams coming true. Making Verlie's a hot bed of creativity, and showcasing awesome local talent. Here's what you said:

  • Yeah! Metal up your ass at Verlie's! Shout out to Brian Pritchard from Dohm, sorry I was late bro. Do you want my $50.00 cover now or later? I love it, this place has it all, balls to the wall! Aaaaahhhrrgggrrgghh! - Jeremy
  • Dohm, King, Insurrect, irreality...good times, beer, beats, bass guitar, and soul - Jeff
  • Had a great time. Super bartender. Irreality was the best band
  • We came, we attempted to rock, we learned of Verlie's stock. F**kin Rock on Verlie's

  • I'm very amazed by how different people have their own unique style and how they combine talent to create their own music. The diversity is immense. Go to Verlie's for a good time!!! - Roelondo
  • My kids dragged me up to Verlie's tonight because they wanted to hear the bands. I wanted to go to bed, I enjoyed all 4 bands. - Lady C
  • Phenomenal rhythm section!! Really enjoyed the song that started with Max's guitar riff at the beginning
  • How come you never see the drummer from dohm and Philip Seymour Hoffman in the same room? - Gila Monster
  • Go get em pal! They call it the American dream because you have to be asleep to believe it
  • Levente Nagy, it was a pleasure to make your aquaintance tonight. A great bassist. I'm not too into metal, but Dohm rocks! - Lady C
  • Once you're here you'll never want to leave. Come to Verlie's walk back in time with us - Hope
  • Good bar, good people, good music will follow - Mike from Irreality

Metal Night

Hot Ham and Cheese, Made in Canada

It was the second week of our metal night. Thanks to our special guests Hot Ham and Cheese, and Made in Canada who filled in at the last minute for Johhny Mowhawk and the Assassins, who were originally scheduled to play. Made in Canada had a modern sound that wasn't really metal, but I liked it a lot. It was more along the line of power pop, and they did a great job of warming up the crowd. Hot Ham and Cheese were the headliners. They had a more old school sound that was a melding of a lot of different things. There were some definite 70's early punk stuff going on along with alot of other styles in there as well. I found myself humming one of their tunes on the break. So it stuck with me which tells me something... Anyway, Once again not alot of blogs. Wednesday's are more like a concert feel, and it seems people aren't into writing blogs, here's what was turned in:

  • I need my skateboard! - JK
  • Awesome show tonight, Rock on! - Sarah
  • Bop 'til ya drop - Matt
  • I settled into the cozy bar on the corner of 46th & Storer to catch Made in Canada (from Yougstown) & Jib Machine Records Hot Ham & Cheese. It seemed the Wed. regulars were nestled into their barstools getting their ears blown off by the amount of noise that was carrying through the bar. Meanwhile, I was taking in all the sounds and excitement, drinking my 12oz can of Budweiser & looking over the Scene Magazine. One of the great things that Verlie's offers bands is live recording. Props to Verlie's - Regi Jib Machine Records

Friday January 6th 2006 & Saturday January 7th 2006

Straight Shooter & Jeremy Piteo

It's the first weekend of the new year and Verlie's presented something old and something new to kick it off. On Friday classic rockers Straight Shooter got things off to a great start with a blend of songs from the 70's thru the present. A very talented group, they had everyone on thier feet from beginning to end. Their singer was a little worried that she was just getting over a bout of pnemonia but sounded just fine. If you like to party make sure you check them out later this spring. Up next on Saturday night was one of Verlie's favorites, Jeremy Piteo. Once again, Jeremy kicked out the jams from David Bowie to STP, and a few of his own rockin originals mixed in. As usual, Jeremy brought up a few guests to help him out on some tunes. Thanks to Rolando and Lady C for sitting in and making the night another special Saturday at Verlie's. Heres what you had to say...

  • Thanks! What's missing? A dance floor! - unsigned
  • Straight Shooter played straght from the hip - Bubba
  • Had a blast. Good people, great music. Straight Shooter is awesome - David
  • Straight Shooter is excellent and worth hearing again. We had an exellent time - Judy
  • P.S. My other friend Lori and I think the drummer is hot and my friend Jake thinks the lead singer is even hotter - Judy
  • T'was a fine evening. Not many people showed. I almost feel jinxed for inviting people. The people that matter made it. Everyone else missed out. That's all I have to say 'bout that. I don't care if I'm the only one here, I still love this place. - Jeremy
  • Tell Jeremy I am having a good time. Great originals by Jeremy and Aerosmith. - Mary B
  • Jeremy said to Sherri "You may be a cunning linguist but I am a master debater" I love you both - Lady C
  • Three things in life are certain. Death, Taxes and Verlie's Rocks - Fritz
  • In one hundred words or less, why do they call you Rhino Man - Danny
  • Somehow, as the spirits became my friend, another spirit crept in and took over this young gentleman playing guitar. Verlie's was a rockin this Saturday - Larry
  • It's Saturday and Jeremy is playing and he sounds great. His music makes me relaxed and mellow which is what I need right now. Verlies is a hometown bar that you will always feel comfortable in - Mary B
  • Verlie's is a great crossroads for music. There was a temptation to pick up a guitar for a while there...but out of respect and love of music I waited and didn't regret it. - fellow musician

Metal Night

At No End, Nightcrawler, Institution

We kicked off the first Wednesday of the new year with our new Metal night. Thanks to our old buddies Night Crawler, and our new buddies At No End, and Institution. Also thanks to Barb and Mandee from Exciting City Magazine for the awesome cover on the mag this week. First up was At No End. They did a great job of warming up the crowd. They have a modern sound, that is somewhat on the hard core side. Next was Nightcrawler. These guys are old school veterans of the metal scene. They have a melodic sound and were tighter than ever. Institution finished off the night. They were really hard core. It was a little heavy for my taste, but the crowd was really into them. Join us next week for Hot Ham and Cheese, and Johnny Mowhawk and the Assassins. There weren't too many blogs because everyone was banging their heads and getting into it. Here's what was turned in:

  • We had a great time playing on Metal Night @ Verlie's. Most clubs don't even compare to how good Verlie's treats bands. Stay Hardcore - Jack (At No End)
  • Talk about a jam. Hot & heavy @ Verlie's - PR Joe
  • Verlie's, looks like the line up of music types will bring me back here on another nite - C Cleveland
  • I'm not big on Heavy Metal, but I was intrigued with the sound and it's driving beat - Lady C
